Matte Lipsticks
These are usually full coverage, and have no shine at all. Because of this, matte lipsticks tend to be the driest off all lipstick types. You'll want to make sure your lips have been exfoliated and moisturised before applying a matte lipstick, as they will cling to any dry skin. Matte lipsticks have come a long way in the last couple of years, and many brands now produce matte lipsticks that are a lot less drying, and a lot more comfortable to wear. One of the perks of matte lipsticks is that they last for longer than most other finishes.

Cream lipsticks usually have medium to full coverage. Unlike mattes, these are creamy, and far more moisturising. Due to the moisture content they have a sheen to them. They aren't as long wearing as matte finishes, but they still wear well. They're perfect for people who want full coverage without the dryness.

Satin Lipsticks
A satin finish lies between matte and cream. They still have fuller coverage, but they have a slight sheen to them, a semi-matte finish. They glide easily on the lips, and have good staying power (though not quite as well as mattes),

Frost Lipsticks
Frost finishes are just that. Frosted. They have a more shiney, metallic look to them. Sometimes they can have chunkier glitter in them too. The opacity ranges from medium to full. Like mattes, these can be quite unforgiving on your lips, so make sure your lips are prepped properly before applying.
